Does New York require a pay stub?
Labor Law section 195(3) requires a wage statement with every payment of wages, including domestic workers. It must show the pay period dates, employer and employee names, employer address and phone, rate(s) of pay and basis (hourly, salary), gross wages, deductions, allowances claimed, and net wages; for non-exempt workers, the regular and overtime rates and hours.
Paying a household employee in New York
Federal rules from IRS Publication 926 apply in every state. Social Security and Medicare apply once you pay one household employee $3,000 or more in cash wages in 2026. Federal unemployment (FUTA) applies once you pay $1,000 or more in total household wages in any calendar quarter. You may also need to register with New York's revenue and unemployment agencies.
