How the conversion works

For hourly pay, the estimate multiplies the rate by hours per week and weeks worked per year. Weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly and monthly amounts divide the resulting yearly amount by 52, 26, 24 and 12. For salary, the converter divides yearly pay by hours per week and weeks worked per year to estimate an hourly rate.

A worked example

$20 an hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $41,600 a year, $1,600 biweekly. These are gross amounts before taxes. To see take-home pay, use the paycheck calculator.

Overtime

Optional overtime hours per week are added at 1.5× the hourly rate. Overtime rules vary by state and job; see your state page.
